The most popular and televised of all Poker Tournaments including the most famous of all The World Poker Tour. With a makeup that is deceptively simple.
Each player pays a set amount (the Buy-In) for this they are guaranteed a seat in the tournament. To keep things equal all players are allocated a set number of chips you all have the same.
The number of tables depends on the number of players there are as many as it takes to accommodate all the players wanting to participate.
Lose all your chips and your out, you then leave the table and the remaining players are shuffled around to ensure equal numbers at each table.
Players who are use to the online tournaments will know that they last for a few hours however in real life games they can last for days.
Like any major sport or game fitness is the key you have to have stamina and patience to survive to become a champ. Practice then when you think your good practice some more till your brilliant.
Tips and Tricks
Tournament play means that only the top finishers get paid it's important that you change your strategy to make allowances for the different styles in play in multi table tournaments.
Nearly all the experts agree that in the early stages of a multi table tournament you do not want to play loose. Become really tight is the general rule only play top pairs i.e. KK QQ AA if you really must play JJ or AK suited, the idea is that you let the muppets play themselves out.
Let's face it class will out and your class right! During the next phase the middle stages of a tournament, most of the muppets will have bit the dust and you can help clean up the afters.
Loosen up a bit and even try the odd bluff after all everyone will know by now that you only play top hands. But still be careful you're not in the money yet.
You want to pick up chips not lose any. After all when you hit that final table you want to be in a commanding position. Another good tip is keep an eye on what the average stack size most poker site will let you do this.
So you've made it to the final table of the WPT what are you going to do. (Praying won't help at this stage.)
Try not to get hand locked you know what we mean frightened of making a play until you have an unbeatable hand. Unfortunately the blinds at this level will cripple you.
Don't go head to head unless you're confident of a win and don't join a cat fight if two players are slugging it out, let 'em pick off the losers and wait your chance to fight it out with the winners.
